Simon was principal conductor of the Bristol University Chamber Orchestra from 1996-7. He graduated from the University of Bristol with a First Class Honours degree in Music in 1997 and a Masters in Music Composition in 1998. Largely self-taught as a jazz pianist, Simon performed as a side-man and then band leader on cruise ships including two World Cruises on the famous QE2. Since settling in London in 2005 Simon has established himself on the jazz scene working with some of the U.K’s leading instrumentalists and vocalists including Alec Dankworth, Nina Ferro, and Gabrielle Ducomble and Digby Fair weather.
Simon has taught jazz piano, composition and musicianship at Trinity College of Music (Junior Dept.) since 2005 and has been Head of Jazz at Bradfield College since 2006. He divides his time between teaching, performing, composing, presenting his ‘It’s All Music’ lecture concept to schools and colleges and hosting his weekly radio show ‘The Jazz Report’ on Jazz Bites Radio.
