The 75th anniversary of VE Day, which marks the end of the Second World War in Europe, takes place on Friday, May 8 2020.

Due to COVID 19 plans to commemorate and celebrate this momentous occasion have had to change with national events such as a veterans’ procession down the Mall and events in St. James Park, having to be postponed.

However, Bracknell Forest Council and The Lexicon are encouraging families to mark the event, safely at home. At 3.00 pm on Friday, May 8 2020, the nation is being asked to remember, be it through a moment of quiet contemplation or a #VEDay75stayathome party.

Over the coming days, Bracknell Forest Council and The Lexicon will be posting ideas on their Facebook pages with ideas for you.

You could decorate a poster, create bunting for your garden, cook a menu using war time recipes or download a 1940’s playlist. We hope you can join us to celebrate and commemorate this special day, while you #StayHomeSaveLives.
