The Lexicon has today, March 18 2026, announced the launch of a new community recycling initiative entitled The Remake Project.
In collaboration with four local schools, The Remake Project aims to raise awareness of recycling and sustainability, in a fun and creative way. The four schools, Winkfield St Mary’s, Holly Spring, New Scotland Hill and The Pines, will be using materials otherwise destined for landfill to transform four old sculpture bases into vibrant new artworks. The bases were first used by The Lexicon in 2018 and, instead of being sent to landfill, were kept and stored so they could be reused for future projects such as this.
Mick Conway, Environmental Services Manager at The Lexicon says:
“Waste management is a key element of our Sustainability Mission, so we are delighted to have teamed-up with local schools to highlight the importance of recycling and reusing everyday items. Once complete, the four reinvented sculptures will be placed on display in the town centre as a reminder to recycle and to provide inspiration on what can be achieved with simple pieces of rubbish.”
To help make this happen, The Lexicon is asking the local community to get involved by donating specific preloved or waste items for the schools to use.
The Remake Project is looking for
All items can be dropped off at Shopmobility* in Princess Square until April 30 2026.
Rachel Tompkins, Headteacher at Winkfield St Mary’s says:
“All the schools are delighted to be collaborating with The Lexicon on this exciting sustainability project. We aim to empower our children to become advocates for positive change and to understand how their actions can make a meaningful difference to their community and beyond. This project will enable them to get hands-on in a creative way, to highlight to the local community the importance of recycling and reusing materials where possible.”
*Please note that Shopmobility which is located in Princess Square is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Please clearly label your bag with what’s inside.
