Rooftop hives at The Lexicon get new local beekeeper

Homegrown honey now on sale

Local beekeeper and founder of Busy Bee Honey Company, Steve Burnell, has recently been appointed to look after The Lexicon’s three hives located on the rooftop of Princess Square.

With more than a decade of experience, Steve will ensure that the bees remain healthy, happy and disease-free.

A former firefighter, Steve turned his hobby into a full-time business in 2022, managing hives across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. He also runs beekeeping experiences and gives talks on pollinators to community groups.

Tom Henderson, centre director at The Lexicon, says:

“We’re proud to support a brilliant local business while also doing our part for biodiversity in Bracknell. It’s fantastic to be producing delicious, homegrown honey right here in The Lexicon.”

Steve is also working with The Lexicon to explore ways to transform the beeswax into other products.

He has recently extracted the spring harvest honey, which is now available to purchase for £5 a jar from Craft Coop in Princess Square or from The Lexicon Management Suite. Stocks are limited, so don’t miss your chance to pick up a jar!

This partnership marks another step in The Lexicon’s commitment to sustainability – supporting both local enterprise and biodiversity in the heart of Bracknell.

All proceeds from the sale of The Lexicon honey go to The Lexicon Charity Fund. Last year, the honey contributed £1,000 to the Fund.

The Lexicon Charity fund is managed in conjunction with Berkshire Community Foundation [Charity Number: 1155173], an independent charity that connects local people with local causes and projects.
